About AnWell

The state-of-the-art AnWell Veterinary Rehab and Conditioning Center is Pennsylvania's first total rehab and conditioning facility to feature the Ferno Hydrotreadmill and Swim System for aquatic therapy for veterinary rehabilitation.

Using the natural properties of water (buoyancy, resistance and heat), the treadmill system creates a low-impact treadmill workout that helps the animal to increase muscle strength and endurance, and allows for a quicker transition to land-based therapy. Treatments are customized through variable water heights, which can accommodate different sized dogs and be adjusted for various weight bearing exercises.

Physical rehabilitation is a controlled exercise environment that allows the animal to begin to regain function after an injury, minimizes the risk of reinjury, and prevents muscle atrophy and other complications of disease. Our goals are to improve mobility, manage pain, improve strength, and restore function in the lives of our pets.

We function strictly as a referral center for rehabilitation services to the veterinary community. working as a team with the referring veterinarian. Dogs from the mid-Atlantic region-Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and Maryland-can receive extended treatment at AnWell while enjoying off-hours comfort at the new Lucky Chance Pet Resort and Spa.

Our well-trained staff use the AnWell Center to treat a wide variety of canine health issues, including: post surgical cases, joint injuries, gait abnormalities, circulation restoration, muscle injuries, arthritis, geriatrics, neurological, orthopedic, pain management, and weight management.

The most common orthopedic surgeries we see are hips and knee joints. These patients can really benefit from hydrotherapy early in the recovery process. We also see a number of back and neck surgeries which take a lot of time and work and some dedicated owners. Older pets, who may not be surgery candidates get a tremendous benefit from the hydrotherapy and an exercise program that results in increased mobility. We also work with a number of dysplasia and osteoarthritis cases.

The AnWell Veterinary Rehab and Conditioning Center also offers proactive wellness programs involving:

  • Hydrotherapy
  • Aquatic exercise with underwater treadmill system
  • Swim therapy
  • Massage
  • Range of motion and stretching
  • Cold and heat applications
  • Individualized conditioning/strengthening/exercise programs
  • Electric muscle stimulation
  • Land Treadmill Therapy
  • Therapeutic Ultrasound
  • Neuromuscular Electrical

Hydrotherapy treatment benefits dogs because:

  • Warm water enhances pain reduction and increases the extensibility of muscle tissue and tendons
  • Older animals with joint problems can exercise effectively by taking pressure off their joints in water
  • Improved circulation
  • Restoration of mobility
  • Strengthening of limbs
  • Increased range of motion
  • Improved coordination and function
  • Variable water heights accommodate different sized dogs and allow for adjustable weight bearing.
  • Dogs can either swim at maximum water height or walk comfortably on the treadmill at lower water heights without experiencing panic.
